Byzantine Empire
On November 11, Emperor Constantine VIII passed away in Constantinople after a reign of three years. On his deathbed, without a male heir, Constantine appointed his eldest daughter, Zoë Porphyrogenita, as his successor and arranged for her marriage to the Byzantine nobleman, Romanos III (Argyros).
Just days later, on November 15, Zoë Porphyrogenita ascended the throne as empress consort, and her husband, Romanos III, aged 60, became the new emperor of the Byzantine Empire.
England
Cnut the Great set sail from England to Norway leading a fleet of 50 ships. He achieved victory over Olaf Haraldsson and was subsequently crowned king of Norway. This victory solidified Cnut’s status as the sole ruler of England, Denmark, and parts of Sweden, forming the Danish North Sea Empire.
Europe
On April 14, the ten-year-old Henry III (the Black), son of Emperor Conrad II (the Elder), was elected and crowned as king of Germany in Aachen Cathedral by Pilgrim, the archbishop of Cologne.
During the same year, King Sancho Garcés III (the Great) successfully conquered Castile (in modern-day Spain), around this approximate date.
