159th Division (People’s Republic of China)

The 159th Division(Chinese: 第159师) was created in November 1948 under the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army, issued by Central Military Commission on 1 November 1948, basing on the 7th Independent Division of Jichareliao Military District, formed in February.

The Formation and History of the 159th Division

The 159th Division (Chinese: 第159师) was established in November 1948 under the regulations set forth by the Central Military Commission concerning the redesignation of military organizations and units. This formation was based on the 7th Independent Division of the Jichareliao Military District, which had been formed earlier in February.

Role in the Chinese Civil War

As part of the 46th Corps, the 159th Division actively participated in the Chinese Civil War. However, by July 1949, the division was disbanded. The remaining personnel were reorganized in 1952 as the 6th Regiment of the 2nd Forestry Engineering Division.

Composition at Disbandment

At the time of its disbandment, the 159th Division consisted of the following regiments:

  • 475th Regiment
  • 476th Regiment
  • 477th Regiment
