1878 South Australian Football Association Season
The 1878 South Australian Football Association (SAFA) season marked the 2nd season of the premier Australian rules football competition in South Australia.
This year’s competition featured seven teams, with the introduction of the newly established club Norwood, following the closure of Bankers and Woodville at the end of the previous season in 1877.
For the first time, each team played against each other twice, thanks to the implementation of a standardized fixture.
Norwood had a remarkable debut, securing their first premiership title by completing the season undefeated.
Pre-Season
Prior to the season, the SAFA clubs participated in inter-club matches on May 4. Additionally, a pre-season game was organized between some residents of South Australia and Victoria living in Adelaide.
Premiership Season
The official premiership matches commenced after May 11 and included multiple rounds of competitive play.
