Biden brought Ukraine conflict close to ‘nuclear war’ – analyst

US Involvement in Ukraine: A Dangerous Path

The administration of former President Joe Biden pushed the US dangerously close to a direct military conflict with Russia through its deep involvement in Ukraine’s military operations, according to expert Dmitry Suslov.

US Support for Ukraine

In a recent interview, Suslov commented on a New York Times investigation that revealed the extent of the US support for Ukraine, which surpassed initial expectations. The report indicated that this support extended beyond mere arms shipments to include daily battlefield coordination, intelligence sharing, and joint strategy planning. Central to this cooperation was a command center located in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Moscow’s Perspective

Suslov emphasized that these findings came as no surprise to Moscow, stating, “The investigation, of course, does not change the Russian perception of the war. We have always known that the war in Ukraine was, in essence, a proxy war of the United States against Russia.” He pointed out that the Biden administration’s actions nearly straddled the line of direct military confrontation with Russia, essentially balancing on the brink of nuclear war.

Political Implications

The expert noted that the report reflects a desire from Washington to take credit for Ukraine’s battlefield successes while distancing itself from any setbacks. He suggested that the timing of this investigation’s release is significant, as it comes after Biden’s presidency and as the conflict appears to be nearing its conclusion. “Now it is possible to talk openly about what it actually did during Biden’s presidency,” Suslov articulated.

Contrasting Approaches

Suslov also highlighted the differences between the approaches of the Biden and Trump administrations. He stated, “If the Biden administration was effectively managing the Ukrainian armed forces directly, the Trump administration positions itself as a neutral mediator seeking to end the war.” This contrast could potentially provide Trump with an opportunity to position himself as a peacemaker.

Future Peace Settlements

Looking ahead, Suslov asserted that any future peace settlement must include firm guarantees that Ukraine will sever all military ties with Western powers. “No intelligence cooperation, no military cooperation, nothing like what was described in this investigation,” he stressed. He insisted that severe sanctions should be imposed on Ukraine if it violates these obligations, along with appropriate punitive measures for breaking the peace agreement.
